About Sandbox Stories

We are thrilled to announce that Sandbox Stories Theater Company
has officially been approved for our 501c(3) non-profit status! YEE-HAW! Now let the fun begin!
We are looking for sponsors for our 2008 Sandbox Stories Writing Contest and Performance. Please consider being a part of Sandbox Stories Theater Company at the grassroots level. Through your volunteer efforts or a generous donation, Sandbox Stories Theater Company will continue to grow and thrive in our community.

While living in Los Angles, I started a writing program called Sandbox Stories. At the time I was teaching 5th grade English and was looking for a way to get my kids excited about writing. So I invited a group of professional actors to rehearse and perform my fifth graders creative writing stories for an all school assembly. The performance of the stories was a huge hit at our school and before long, our community started to catch word of Sandbox Stories as well. I was asked by the owner of a small theater in Hollywood to perform our show for a 7 week run open to the public.Two months later, Sandbox Stories was nominated for the Best Children’s Show by the prestigious Los Angeles Valley Theater League, received the award for Best Director of a Children’s Show by the Valley Theater League and was featured on the venerable LA radio station KPFK.

For the past two years, Sandbox Stories has partnered with Bas Bleu Theatre Company here in Fort Collins. This year however, Sandbox Stories has ventured into new territory and become its own non-profit theater company. Currently, Sandbox Stories is gaining momentum for our 2008-2009 season. Katie Cassis, Founder of Sandbox Stories, graduated from Columbia College, Chicago with a degree in Theater. She has worked professionally as an actor, director and writer both in Chicago and Los Angeles and is the founder of the award winning Sandbox Stories. For 15 years, Katie has taught Creative writing and Drama to kids of all ages. Her passion for the stage, education and creativity is the foundation and root for which Sandbox Stories is based.
