In-School Writing Workshops

Imagination Station (grades 2-5): One-day grade level workshop dedicated to helping children discover the stories within themselves. During this session the writing process will be demonstrated and children will be given the opportunity to explore process writing through drama, poetry, music and creative writing. Reader’s Theater performance of student stories is available at the end of each one day workshop.

  Imagination Station 2 (grades 6-8) One-day grade level workshop dedicated to helping older kids rediscover their imaginations and connect to the creativity of their childhood. This workshop focuses on allowing young people the opportunity to discover their creative voice through poetry and short stories. Teaching methodologiesinclude process writing, drama and improvisational movement. Reader’s Theater performance of student stories is available at the end of each one day workshop.

Never-Never Land (grades 2-5): One-week grade level workshop that is dedicated to developing stories from start to finish. This includes techniques for brainstorming topics, drafting, revision, final draft and publishing. This workshop is designed to help children discover the process of writing through inventive and imaginative methodology. Writing focus: Poetry, prose, short stories and will include drama and music as teaching aids. Reader’s Theater performance of student stories is available at the end of each one week workshop.

Never-Never Land Again (grades 6-8) : One-week grade level workshop dedicated to helping older students learn the process of writing while fostering creativity. Students will learn fun techniques for topic brainstorming that can be used during state testing, classroom writing assignments or simply personal enjoyment. They will learn drafting and revision techniques and will be held responsible for a final draft at the end of each workshop. Reader’s Theater performance of student stories is available at the end of each one week workshop.

Artist in Residency Program : This program focuses on helping to develop a long-term appreciation for writing by establishing daily opportunities for students to integrate the creative process into their own learning. Resident artists conduct writing workshops with students and teachers that are intended to enhance rather than replace or substitute current writing curriculum.

All workshops comply with Colorado Model Content Standards 2, 3, 4.
